Witness magic happen at the Windless Kite Festival

This indoor kite-flying extravaganza will again feature the Northwest’s fine performers of flying gracefully to music in a gymnasium. Some fly individually, others work in pairs or trios and still others perform a story with their kites. A special competition is the Hot Tricks Shoot Out where indoor flyers match one crazy flying trick after another.

This 9th annual Windless Kite Festival, was started by and is continually organized by Scott Davis, the man wearing formal attire and flying the kite in the picture. Many of his crew comes from the Pierce County Kite Fliers and the Northwest Stunt Kite League.

This year’s invited flyer is Scott Weidner from Rhode Island, a competitor and first place winner in the nationals.

The event is held in the Long Beach School Gymnasium, which is on 4th Street S., and Washington. It’s a great show for watchers and if you’d like to try flying, teachers are happy to help.

Loyalty Days Parade & Blessing of the Fleet

Every year on the first weekend in May, our community gathers to celebrate our freedom and honor those who have served our country.

I have to admit, this is a pretty big deal here and everyone, and I do mean just about everyone, comes to the parade. We enjoy watching all the local children in the parade, the various bands that support this event, our mayor, local law enforcement, the fire department, clowns, animals, cheerleaders....you name it we've got it!

Bring your rain gear and warm clothing because it's not unusual to experience a good rain. But never fear! Rain or shine the parade MUST go on!

Celebrate the Festivities on the Coast

While the weather may be a bit on the chilly side during the month of December, many tourists seek their refuge on the coast of Washington simply due to the sheer excitement of the winter storms.

Storm watchers agree the beach is a thrilling place to be while awaiting a big storm!

All weather observations aside, be sure to check out the infamous Lighted Boat and Crab Pot Christmas tree in Ilwaco on Saturday, December 5th, 2009. The fisherman in our community certainly know how to celebrate and have teamed up to create a tradition like no other. The third annual lighting of the WORLD'S LARGEST CRAB POT CHRISTMAS TREE will take place at the west end of the Port of Ilwaco at 5:15 pm. Everyone is welcome. There will be caroling and refreshments.

Join us New Years Eve for a spectacular display of Firework at Midnight over the Pacific Ocean!

Bring the whole family or your sweetie as you ring in the New Year!
