Witness magic happen at the Windless Kite Festival

This indoor kite-flying extravaganza will again feature the Northwest’s fine performers of flying gracefully to music in a gymnasium. Some fly individually, others work in pairs or trios and still others perform a story with their kites. A special competition is the Hot Tricks Shoot Out where indoor flyers match one crazy flying trick after another.

This 9th annual Windless Kite Festival, was started by and is continually organized by Scott Davis, the man wearing formal attire and flying the kite in the picture. Many of his crew comes from the Pierce County Kite Fliers and the Northwest Stunt Kite League.

This year’s invited flyer is Scott Weidner from Rhode Island, a competitor and first place winner in the nationals.

The event is held in the Long Beach School Gymnasium, which is on 4th Street S., and Washington. It’s a great show for watchers and if you’d like to try flying, teachers are happy to help.

Come boogie at the Bluegrass Festival!

Come to the peninsula to enjoy 20 wonderful sets of top-notch Bluegrass music, each 45 minutes long, along with the infamous "band scramble", which places band members, and some of the musicians in the audience, together for a delightfully good time.
Take advantage of a number of workshops available for anyone Saturday morning.
Friday night starts off with 2 hours of Open mic at 3:00, with a dinner break from 5-6, leading into hours of entertainment!

Who'll hook the big prize at the Black Lake Fishing Derby?

Fishing begins at 7:00am and final weigh in is at 10:30am.

The Black Lake Fishing Derby marks the season opening of fishing on this stocked lake. Parents are kindly asked to give the kids the first chance at hooking a big one, at least until 10:30am, when the derby is over. Don't worry if you forgot to pack a picnic, refreshments and hot dogs are available after 10am. Everyone is welcome, and encouraged to stick around for a while an enjoy the outdoors while you wait until 11:00am when the winner will be announced!

Loyalty Days Parade & Blessing of the Fleet

Every year on the first weekend in May, our community gathers to celebrate our freedom and honor those who have served our country.

I have to admit, this is a pretty big deal here and everyone, and I do mean just about everyone, comes to the parade. We enjoy watching all the local children in the parade, the various bands that support this event, our mayor, local law enforcement, the fire department, clowns, animals, cheerleaders....you name it we've got it!

Bring your rain gear and warm clothing because it's not unusual to experience a good rain. But never fear! Rain or shine the parade MUST go on!
